POSITION: Public Relations Manager
Callan Park Festival is celebrating Mental Health on Saturday, 1st May 2011 by honouring mental health consumers, their carers, family, friends and the community that supports them.
We are looking for a Public Relations Manager who will undertake a management role. The perfect candidate will have knowledge of the public relation concepts and methods, be creative and must have strong project management and coordination skills. A must have is excellent oral and written communications skills along with the ability to work in a team. The perfect candidate must be self-motivated and comfortable working autonomously. They must possess strong business acumen and enjoy working with an entrepreneurial team.
TASKS INCLUDE:
- Assign, supervise and review the activities of the public relations Department
- Develop internal communications techniques that keep employees frequently informed of cross departmental company activities
- Direct publicity programs that are designed to inform and improve the public understanding of Utopia Research Institute and Callan Park festival
- Direct information to groups such as consumers, internal employees, Sponsors, Vendors, Government and the general public
- Help to clarify the company’s point of view on important issues to community or public interest groups.
- Produce instructional material and motivational incentives in cooperation with labor relations managers
- Ensure that effective press releases are written by the Media team and that they compile comprehensive information about the company, for the media
- Active involvement in preparing publicity brochures, handouts, promotional videos and multimedia programs that serve to reach the company’s policies to the public
- Organizing press conference, exhibitions and press tours along with Public Relations Director
- Aid in Directing activities of external agencies, establishments and departments that develop and implement communication strategies and information programs
- Ensure speeches are drafted for company Directors (admin or media coordinator to draft)
- Ensure interviews and other forms of contact for Directors
- Maintain the company’s corporate image and identity, which includes the use of logos and signage.
- Researches and identifies trends, key group interests and public concerns
QUALITIES NEEDED:
- Knowledge of public relation concepts and methods
- Demonstrated creativity and strong project management and coordination skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Superior customer service skills
- Excellent editing, proofing, spelling and grammar skills
- Ability to work with a wide variety of people including team members, clients, senior management
- Ability to work effectively with different personalities and ability to adapt quickly to changing situations
As this is a Volunteer Internship, no payment will be awarded, but letters of recommendation from supervisors will be given. We will also acknowledge your name before and permanently after the festival on our volunteer honour role on the website.
You will gain opportunities to enhance a resume with charity work, gain invaluable experience and work in an environment where experienced people are volunteering for an excellent cause.
This position is flexible, as we are an Eco-Friendly Institute. Our interns communicate and work via the web through our Gmail and Skype. This position does require that you have web access, a mobile and if possible a landline. You may be required to attend some (but not all) meetings. Meetings will be held at various locations, usually in university’s or the CBD.
You will also gain opportunities to work in other areas of the organisation depending on your skill sets, thus you may get to work in other departments if tasks are available for you to do. You will gain new skills and experiences.
You may volunteer on the day of the festival, but, it is not required in order to hold this position.
This is a great opportunity for any determined student to put their “foot in the door” and start their career in Public Relations.
