POSITION: Journalism Internship
Callan Park Festival is celebrating Mental Health on Sunday, 1st May 2011 by honouring mental health consumers, their carers, family, friends and the community that supports them.
The Festival is looking for students ready to get some hands on experience in the field of Journalism. This job is perfect for someone studying a related degree (preferably Communications/Journalism/Media/ Law). No previous Journalism experience is required though it is desirable.
TASKS INCLUDE:
- Promoting the festival online through website blogging and writing articles to be posted online.
- Writing high quality content with reference to key source materials
- In keeping with the Festival’s brand image
- Be involved in investigative research in journalism.
QUALITIES NEEDED:
- Multi-tasking ability
- Ability to work independently and with a team
- Great oral and written communication skills
- Willingness to learn
- Enthusiasm
- Good skills with writing articles in different styles
- Is knowledgeable of government bodies and the way in which they operate
- Is available approx. 10 hours a week
As this is a Volunteer Internship, no payment will be awarded, but letters of recommendation from supervisors will be given. We will also acknowledge your name before and permanently after the festival on our volunteer honour role on the website.
You will gain opportunities to enhance a resume with charity work, gain invaluable experience and work in an environment where experienced people are volunteering for an excellent cause.
This position is flexible, as we are an Eco-Friendly Institute. Our interns communicate and work via the web through our Gmail and Skype. This position does require that you have web access, a mobile and if possible a landline. You may be required to attend some (but not all) meetings. Meetings will be held at various locations, usually in university’s or the CBD.
You will also gain opportunities to work in other areas of the organisation depending on your skill sets, thus you may get to work in other departments if tasks are available for you to do. You will gain new skills and experiences.
You may volunteer on the day of the festival, but, it is not required in order to hold this position.
This is a great opportunity for any determined student to put their “foot in the door” and start their career in Journalism.
